South side
When you turn right from Waterlands Village on the main road, you drive towards the south of the island. A beautiful route that takes you past beautiful places. Along the route, snorkeling and diving locations are indicated with yellow stones.
Our tip: you can download the map of Bonaire on your phone via google maps or maps.me so that you can also navigate offline to all the stops on this route.
Te Amo Beach
Just a 750-meter drive from Watervilla Blou Bonaire is the beautiful Te Amo Beach. It is one of the few sandy beaches on the island and you can also snorkel beautifully here. The reef is just off the coast, so children can also easily discover snorkeling here. At the big red double-decker bus you can buy the most delicious burgers every day between 12:00 and 20:00.
Our tip: Go to this beach at sunset with a cool box with cold drinks to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Bachelors Beach
Not much further, you will find Bachelors beach. You reach this beautiful beach via a narrow staircase. Depending on the tide, you have a narrow strip of sand to lie on. At high tide, the beach is covered with crystal clear water, there are still some rocks to place your stuff on. At this beach you will also find a food truck that makes the most delicious burgers (except on Sundays).
The Beach
When you drive further south you will pass the nice Beachclub the Beach. You can settle down on a beach bed here, but it is also a nice place for a good lunch. The beds are free here, but of course it is assumed that you use the bar. Via a staircase you reach the clear blue water.
Salt Pier
After this you leave the built-up area and drive a beautiful stretch with the beautiful coast on the right and the salt pans looming on the left. On the right the water turns aqua blue and on the left pink, a super beautiful sight. In front of you you see the Salt Pier appear. This is a construction with a conveyor belt with pillars sticking into the seabed. The extracted salt is transported to the ships via this belt. You can snorkel beautifully here. Beautifully colored coral grows against the pillars and beautiful fish swim there. We also spotted turtles and an eagle ray here.
Pink Beach
Pink Beach is located between the white and yellow slave houses. Pink Beach used to be really pink because of pink mini shells mixed with the sand. After hurricane Lenny in 1999, the pink glow of the beach disappeared. Nevertheless, a beautiful and especially quiet beach has remained with many rocks, but here and there also some sandy beaches. You can find shelter under the palm trees that grow here.
Sorobon Beach
You continue driving past the lighthouse, if you look to the left you will see many flamingos in the distance. After a while you take the turn to the right towards Sorobon Beach. Sorobon beach is one of the beaches of Lac Bay. This is a truly beautiful lagoon with super clear aqua blue water and waving palm trees. The water of the lagoon is shallow, making it perfect for learning to surf. You can go to Jibe City for this. You can also sit on a beach bed or have lunch at the Hang Out Beachbar or next to it at Sebastian’s Beach.
Road to Lac Cai
After this you can optionally drive back to water villa Blou Bonaire via the Donkey Farm, but you can also turn right via the Kaminda Sorobon onto the unpaved road Kaminda Lac towards Lac Cai. You will drive past several lakes where you can spot flamingos. You will also encounter many donkeys along the road. You will also pass the Mangrove Info & Kayaking Centre where you can take kayak trips through the adjacent mangroves. A four-wheel drive is recommended on this route.
Lac Cai
When you drive further you will reach Lac Cai. Lac Cai beach is located on the other side of the Lac Bay lagoon compared to Sorobon beach. It is a wide sandy beach where you will find large humps with conch shells. In addition to sand, the bottom here also consists of seagrass fields which attracts many sea turtles. This is therefore also a perfect place to encounter sea turtles while snorkeling. After this you drive back to Watervilla Blou Bonaire.
